Mrs. Gertrude (Tang) Carter was born Oct. 22, 1926, in Leighton, Ala. to the late Maude Qualls and Lee Lander King. She was raised by Steppie and Kurt Quall, of Tuscumbia, Ala. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, Ala., and later united with High Street Church of Christ, Tuscumbia, Ala. She later joined her husband, Minister Brother Robert Carter Sr., worshiping at North Red Rock Church of Christ. She graduated from Trenholm High School. She was united in marriage to Robert F. (Yank) Carter Sr. until his death in 1998.
She leaves to cherish her memory beloved son, Robert Frank Carter Jr., and special friend, Nell Eggleston, Florence, Ala.; grandchildren, Felicia Ann Carter and Robert Lance Carter; great-granddaughter, Arianna Carter; sister, Mrs. Lucille (Cliff) Wade; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Darby and Mrs. Elizabeth Mullins; special nieces, Mrs. Juanita Scarbrough, Ms. Paulette Mullins, Mrs. Sharon Rowell and Mrs. Gladys Cantrell; special nephew, Bill Darby; special cousins, Percy and Willie Neloms; and a host of other nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Visitation with the family will be today, 6-8 p.m., at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Ala.
The funeral service will be noon Thursday, Aug. 29, at High Street Church of Christ, Tuscumbia, Ala., with Brother Kerry Wartkins officiating. Burial will be in Shoals Memorial Gardens, Tuscumbia, Ala. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Public viewing will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia.
