Gertrude Long Young, 95 of Athens, was born August 6, 1930, to John Daniel Long and Louise Greene Long in Madison County, Alabama.

She is survived by Her Daughter: Kaye Young McFarlen (H.W. Mac), Brother: George Edward Emerson (Ima Jean), Sister: Nancy L. Rich (David), Grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth Key (Westen), Joshua Young, Zachary Young, Zebulon Young, Danie’l Mills, James E. Young, and William Young, 7 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. The family also wishes to acknowledge her care giver: Jane Brandon.

She was preceded in death by her Parents: John Daniel Long and Louise Greene Long. Husband: JW Young, Sons: Robert Larry Young, Daniel Avon Young, Daughter-In-Law: Jane Young, Sisters: Audrey Long Johnston, and Roberta Lindsey.

Gertrude was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her family and delighted in their successes. She was noted for her quilts, hand embroidery, and French hand sewing. She had a special talent and loved to share with her family.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Scholarship Fund for The Foundation – Limestone County.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
