It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald “Jerry” Jennings on December 28, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on February 27, 1936, in New York City, Jerry’s life was defined by a spirit of adventure, devotion to family, and a passion for connecting with others.
Jerry’s career brought him to Huntsville, Alabama, where he initially worked with Ford Aerospace before spending the majority of his years at Chrysler Corporation as an Engineering Manager, from which he retired. He also served his community as a Madison City Councilman from 2004-12, leaving a legacy of dedication and civic pride. After retiring from the council, he continued his community involvement through the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOG), serving various positions on their board of directors.
Jerry had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. He was an avid square dancer, often seen on the dance floor with his special friend, Claudia Lively, as part of the Huntsville Singles and Doubles Square Dance Club. A true explorer at heart, Jerry had a deep interest in genealogy and loved traveling to Ireland to trace his roots and learn more about his heritage.
Above all, Jerry was a loving and imaginative grandfather. His grandchildren fondly remember his whimsical stories about his fictional character, “The Nosehosle,” and the fun he brought to their lives with treats like Sprite floats and his famous chocolate box.
Jerry is survived by his loving children, Julie Burge (Dave), Jeff Jennings (Nick Nash), and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Jennings, wife of his late son, Jim. He was a proud grandfather to Kaitlin and Keri Burge, Ryan (Maggie), Landon, and Jordan Jennings, and a cherished great-grandfather to Piper and James Jennings.
