Funeral service for Gerald David “Jerry” Holt, age 80, of Trinity, will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. There will be no graveside service.
Jerry passed away on February 15, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. Jerry was born in Cincinnati, OH on July 2, 1944, to Curtis and Blanche Holt. The youngest of 3 boys, the family moved the Decatur when Jerry was a year old. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1962. He attended Auburn University and Athens College, graduating with a degree in business. Jerry was employed by Prestolite and Cutler-Hammer prior to his career as a firefighter and worked for the City of Decatur for 30 years, retiring as a lieutenant at Station #5, in 2004. He also installed carpet for 30 years.
Jerry was a servant of the people, and did his job well. He loved to work and stay busy, and always helped others when there was a need. When he was not working he loved to hunt and fish.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two children, Chris Holt (Christa) and Pam Brown (Chris); stepdaughter, Emily Hollis (Patrick); two brothers, Crosby Holt and Dennis Holt; six grandchildren, Jordan Traynom (Sydney), Alex Traynom, Bailey Holt (Reagan), Hayden Holt (Riley), Memphis Flack, Maddox Flack; two great-grandchildren, Kenna Traynom and Branson Traynom; and a host of nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
