Mrs. Georgia Magdalene Jarrett Love, took her last breath on Earth on January 22, 2024. Her next breath was with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is home. She passed away at 101 years of age, surrounded by her family, and supported by the caring staff at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care.
Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Brother Bob Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Georgia—better known as Granny Love to the many people who loved her—was born December 30, 1922, in Morris Chapel, Hardin County, Tennessee. She was the eldest of 11 children born to Mary “Maggie” Magdalene Stinnett and George “Boss” Hubert Jarrett. After graduating from Morris Chapel High School, she set out on her own to study cosmetology under FDR’s New Deal at the Columbia Institute for Women. Not long after arriving in Columbia, she met Kenneth Beasley Love. They were married on February 22, 1942, shortly before Kenneth shipped out to serve in WWII. She worked many years for Publix Shirt Corp. (formerly Edric Mfg.) until her retirement in 1985. She most recently made her home at Poplar Estates Senior Living where she loved and was loved by the dedicated staff and her fellow residents.
Taking great comfort and strength from her deep faith throughout her long life, Granny Love most recently attended services with the loving congregation at Mooresville Baptist Church. Over her earlier years she had also attended North View Church of Christ, Eastside Church of Christ, and Riverside Church of Christ.
Granny Love was smart and talented, with an insatiable curiosity that led her to pursue many hobbies and interests over the years. She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, reading, cooking, music, painting, and observing nature. In her younger years, and even later, she often sang around the house and danced. She was adventurous, fun loving, determined, and fiercely independent, and was, in many ways, a woman ahead of her time. Her strength in the face of many obstacles and adversity was inspirational to those around her. One of her mottos was to “keep on kicking” and not give up. She was kind and loving, drawing purpose and pleasure from helping others to smile, and sharing a personal warmth and sense of humor that endeared her to others. Most of all she was a loving Mother who put her children first, always teaching them the most important things in life, even after they had become grandparents themselves.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Johnson (Jim); son, Kenneth B. Love Jr. (Stacey); grandsons Shane Gladden, Kenneth B. Love III (Nurper), and Jason Walker; granddaughters, Felisha Love Liwski (Eric), Noelle Love, and Shayna Walker; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Jerry, Ernest, and Robert Jarrett; sister, Barbara Cagle, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and former husband, Granny Love was preceded in death by her infant twin sons, Lance and Larry; grandsons, Christopher Gladden and Benjamin Love; son-in-law, James “Jim” Johnson; brothers, Lola Lavwan, Harold Dewayne, Charles, and Edward; and sisters Louise Jarrett Smith and Ruth Imogene Jarrett.
