George Wayne Dowdy – Obituary

 George Wayne Dowdy, age 53, of Florence, passed away April 7, 2017. Visitation will be today, April 9, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Wayne Gean officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Iron City, Tennessee.

George was born in Florence, Alabama. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School and then pursued an electrical certification at Muscle Shoals Technical College. He was a proud member of the IBEW for most of his life which resulted in his living in many different cities while always calling Florence his home. He was a master electrician and mentored many other young men into the career.

George enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He loved connecting with his friends on Facebook as he enjoyed his morning coffee. His evenings were spent watching movies with family.

He cherished spending time with his son, grandsons, nieces, and nephew. While George always loved his mother and father, his sister Trish was his whole world. She was not only a sister, but also a completely dedicated caregiver. Words cannot express the bond between Trish and George. He was preceded in death by his parents G. W. and Elizabeth Dowdy; and his brother, Ricky Dowdy.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Dowdy; daughters, Destinee and Shailee Dowdy; grandchildren, Kevin Dowdy Jr. and Jackson Dowdy; brother, Jon Dowdy; sister, Trisha Dowdy Henry and husband, Matt; nieces, Hannah and Holli Henry; and nephew, Houston Henry.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
