On Thursday, September 7, 2023, George Wayne Butler, 78, resident of Ripley, departed this life unexpectedly of natural causes at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Butler will be at 3:30 PM Sunday, September 10 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Huddleston officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 3:30 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Falkner Cemetery.

Mr. Butler was born September 22, 1944 in Ripley, the son of  the late Cleve and Doris LaBarreare Butler. He was a 1962 graduate of Ripley High School, continued his education at Ole Miss where he received his degree in Physical Education and, for 60 years, owned and operated Butler Auto Sales in Ripley.  A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Butler proudly served his country during the Vietnam War Period and on February 28, 1973, married his beloved wife, Dianne May Butler, who survives.

A Christian, Mr. Butler will be remembered by many for his strong work ethic, his generosity and his willingness to help others. His favorite pastimes was golfing, watching Ole Miss Sports and spending time with family. A former Eagle Scout, Mr. Butler served as executive with the Boy Scout Council. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he leaves a legacy of memories that his family and friends will cherish forever.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, memories will continue to be shared by two daughters, Georgiana Brady (Tony) of Ripley and Sarah Hall (Jon) of Falkner, one grandson, Sawyer Brady and his loyal canine companion, “Fred”.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Ward and a brother, Walter Cleve Butler.
