Mr. George Raymond Wilson, 76, died Monday, June 26, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born January 6, 1941 in Montgomery County, MS, to Mac Woodrow Wilson and Robbie Austin Wilson. Upon graduating high school, George continued his studies at Wood Junior College and Homes Junior College. He married Kathryn Richardson on July 7, 1961 and they made their home in the Tupelo area where he worked for MS Valley Gas/ ATMOS Energy for 40 years before retiring. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
Mr. Wilson was an avid Ole Miss and Manning Brothers football fan. He enjoyed watching the western channel and golf channel on television. His greatest passion for sports was playing golf. He was an avid golfer, having the George Wilson Golf Tournament named after him.
A memorial service celebrating George’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., today (Wednesday), June 28, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to service time.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Kathryn Wilson of Tupelo; three sons, Richard Wilson (Nancy) of Hickory, N.C., George Wilson, and Stacy Wilson, both of Tupelo; two brothers, Boyce Wilson (Becky) of Kilmichael, MS, and Joe Wilson (Nancy) of Clarksville, TN; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Bryan, Amy, Beth, Alex, and Claudia; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Levi, McKenzie, Daniel, and Emma, and a host of other dear relatives, friends, and golfing buddies.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s memory may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the charity of your choice.
