macServices for George Milton “Mac” McDaniel, 88, of Waterloo, Ala., will be held at Morrison Funeral Home in Florence, Ala., on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., with interment at Bumpus Creek Cemetery in Waterloo. Bro. Jimmy McGee will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. McDaniel died on May 27, 2014, at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home in Florence. He was born on Oct. 31, 1925, in Birmingham, Ala., to George Porter McDaniel and Novella Irene Outlaw McDaniel.

He grew up in Lick Creek, near Big Sandy, Tenn. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and served in Italy. He was fascinated with cars from the time he was a child and was a skilled mechanic in the Army and by trade. His Christian faith sustained him and he loved going to church every opportunity he had. He enjoyed singing gospel music and teaching Sunday school.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Ronald Lane McDaniel; and his brothers, Gerald Wayne McDaniel, Benton McDaniel, and Buddy McDaniel.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Olene Shook McDaniel of Waterloo; his sons, Robert McDaniel of Waterloo, and Donald McDaniel and wife, Charlotte Robertson McDaniel of Florence; his daughters, Martha Sharp and husband, Kenneth of Waterloo, and Sarah Holcombe and husband, Terry of Wesson, Miss.; his granddaughters, Kimberly McDaniel Payne and husband, the Rev. Chad Payne of West Blocton, Ala.; Heather McDaniel of Washington, D.C., Bonnie McDaniel McClure and husband, Matthew of Bremen, Ga.; his grandsons, Kyle Holcombe and Daniel Holcombe, of Wesson,; his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Payne and Lydia Payne, and Micah McClure; his sisters, Elaine Greer, Gerri Chambers, Ruth Dennison and Doris Snow, all of Tennessee; his daughters-in-law, Jan McDaniel of Villa Rica, Ga., and Karina McDaniel of Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
