Image George L. McWilliams, 94, of Tuscumbia, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 8, 2026. A private graveside service will be held for the family.

George was raised on the family dairy farm on Red Rock Road, owned by his father. He attended Cherokee Vocational High School. After graduation, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War as MM3, Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. Upon his discharge from the Navy, George attended Florence State Teachers College, graduating in 1957, with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Business. He married Alene Fulmer in June of 1961. Three years later, they moved to the Red Rock Community where George worked at Cherokee Nitrogen. He was a member of the American Legion and the Cherokee Lions Club for many years. George and Alene shared sixty-one years together until Alene passed in December of 2022. George remained in Red Rock for the remainder of his life and was a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ. Along with his wife, Alene, George was preceded in death by his parents, Andy Lee and Ellen Foster McWilliams; brothers, Hubert, Robert, Charles, and William; sisters, Mary J. Carter and Martha Ladd; and his stepmother, Nila McWilliams.

George is survived by his children, Greg McWilliams, Keith McWilliams, Carol Ann Simonds (David), and Kimberly Dean (Rob); stepsister, Marjorie Smith; grandchildren, Kayla Bragwell (Brantly Youngman), Matt McWilliams (Nikki), Michael McWilliams, Jessica Ly (Matt LeJeune), Ben Ly, and Maggie Lynn McWilliams; and great-granddaughter, Elaina Youngman.

Pallbearers will be sons, Greg McWilliams and Keith McWilliams; son-in-law, Rob Dean; and grandsons, Matt McWilliams, Michael McWilliams, and Ben Ly.

Special thanks are offered to the staffs of Aveanna Hospice and Happier at Home Caregiver Service for their excellent care for George and amazing support to his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barton Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
