George L. Herman – Obituary

Mr. George L. Herman, age 71 of Selmer, Tennessee, departed this life Monday Morning, September 8, 2014 at McNairy County Assisted Living.

Mr. Herman was born in Ashland, Kansas March 5, 1943 to the late George Michael and Ruth Bernice Tolley Herman. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at various places after moving to West Tennessee, including Ervin Feed Mill, the Hardeman County Airport, and Granville Howell Sawmill/Loaded Crop Dusters. Some of his pastimes included stripping copper and wood carving, and he loved “picking at” his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Stewart of Selmer, and Tracey Edwards of Henderson; a sister, Doris Ann Smith of Middleton; four brothers, Tommy Herman and wife Barbara of Whiteville, Bill Herman of Saulsbury, Mike Herman and wife Peggy of Dumas, Mississippi, and Jimmy Herman and wife Cindy of Bethel Springs; six grandchildren, Casey Herman, Carrie Smith, Cory Stewart, Joseph Edwards, Austin Edwards and Brittany Edwards; and three great-grandchildren, Arianna Stricklin, Bella Herman and Addison Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Pannell and Debra Nelms.
