F.08.19.25 George Patton Sr.jpg  George Edward Patton, Sr., known to just about everyone as “The General,” passed away August 10, 2025, at the age of 80. Born to the late Audrey Helen Patton and Willard Douglas Patton in Tuscumbia, Alabama, George graduated from Deshler High School and played football at the University of Georgia, where he was a two-time All-American defensive tackle. He earned honors including induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, UGA’s Circle of Honor, Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame, nomination to the College Football Hall of Fame, and the Colbert County Hall of Fame. After a brief NFL career, George worked as an executive for John H. Harland. Known for his wit, big heart, and love of golf, fishing, and poker, he was beloved by family and friends alike. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Houston Patton; and siblings, Betty Sue, Huston, James, and Billy Bob.

George is survived by his sister, Patsy Nesbitt and brother-in-law, Bobby; son, George Jr. and daughter-in-law, Anita; grandchildren, Carter, Ryan, and Mary Wade. His last 25 years were made brighter by the companionship of Sandra King.

A service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Park United Methodist Church, 1405 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Park United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
