Funeral for George Dwight Thompson Sr., 74, of Decatur will be Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Loosier Church of Christ Cemetery near Moulton. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born September 13, 1941, in Lawrence County to Horace Irwin Thompson and Mary Elvie Smith Thompson. He graduated from Hatton High School in 1959 and Tennessee Valley State Vocational Technical School in 1963. Mr. Thompson was an accountant, owning his own agency, Thompson Accounting since 1969. He was a gospel preacher for many years in Lauderdale and Lawrence counties. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Horace Thompson Jr., Dewayne Thompson and Willard Terry; and sister, Yvonne Thompson .
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Dale Roy Thompson, Priceville; one son, George Dwight Thompson Jr. (Jennifer), Summertown, TN; two daughters, Dawn Thompson Runager (Michael), Priceville and Greta Thompson Lamb (Craig), Harvest; two sisters, Mary Christine Terry and Wanda Terry, both of Courtland; and five grandchildren, MacKenzie, Garrett, Keaton, Conner and Emma Claire.
Pallbearers will be Keith Thompson, Kevin Thompson, David Thompson, Brayden Thompson, Randy Thompson, Britt Thompson. Brock Thompson, Ricky Terry and Danny Payne.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Morris and Chris Pankey.
