Funeral service for George Dale Upton, age 75, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Todd Kurzhal officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Upton, who died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at his residence, was born August 9, 1940, in San Francisco, CA, to Carl Dale Upton and Margaret Stumpf Upton.
Mr. Upton retired from Austin High School following 29 years of service. He coached Cross Country at Austin High School and Dixie Youth Baseball. Mr. Upton was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sullivan Upton; one son, Jeremy Dale Upton (Kate) of Chapel Hill, NC; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Sullivan Upton and Brennan Elizabeth Upton, both of Chapel Hill, NC.
Pallbearers will be James Clyde Silver, Thomas Avery Littrell, III, Ramsey Woodruff, Quentin Minson, Zachary Minson, and Craig Baker.
