George Alister “Sonny” Henry, III passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 85 years old.

Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved son, James Taylor “Ty” Henry. He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Henry; his children, Adam Henry (Karla) and Meg Henry Hoburg (Glenn); and his stepdaughter, Ashley Jean (Estille). He was affectionately known as “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren, Josh Henry (Hannah), Blake Henry (Emily), Ty Henry, Maddie Hoburg, and Isabelle Hoburg; as well as to his great-granddaughter, Ada Jane Henry.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Sonny grew up enjoying long summer days at the family home on the bay in Point Clear. He attended the University of Alabama, where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a lifelong supporter of Alabama football. In 1967, Sonny moved to Huntsville with his family, where he laid down roots and began a long and meaningful career.

A dedicated professional, Sonny founded his own CPA firm and faithfully served individuals and businesses across the Huntsville area for more than 50 years. His clients were more than just numbers on a ledger-they were friends, neighbors, and members of a community he deeply cared for.

Sonny lived a life full of simple joys and steady commitments. He loved offshore fishing, walking his dogs, and gathering with those he loved most. A longstanding member of the Huntsville Rotary Club and several professional organizations, Sonny believed in the value of service and community. He and Donna were faithful members of Christ Presbyterian Church in Hampton Cove, where they found spiritual nourishment and lasting friendships.

To know Sonny was to experience quiet strength, enduring loyalty, and a warm sense of humor. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Michael Calvert and Glenn Hoburg officiating.
