Geneva Christine Cox Johnson, age 74, passed away August 3, 2016, in Huntsville, AL. She was born April 14, 1942, in Piggott, AR to the late W. H. “Baldy” Cox and Altie Marie Cox. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Cox Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Dee Johnson; two sons, Dr. John Dee Johnson, Jr. (Kim) of Huntsville, AL, and Mark Christopher Johnson (Tracey) of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren, Katelyn Renee, William Michael, Laura Christian, Emory Brennis, Elizabeth Marie, and John Dee, III; and one brother, William Griggs Cox (Tafnee) of Pocahontas, AR.
Chris attended Pocahontas High School, and the First Freewill Baptist College in Nashville, TN. She was a faithful Christian woman always ready to serve others. She devoted her life to supporting and loving her husband and children in all they did. For over 12 years, she was a daily caregiver to her mother. Mamaw never met a stranger and everyone she came in contact with was treated like family. Visits to her house were always fun and full of adventure as she cooked, entertained, and cared for everyone. She was completely devoted to John, her beloved husband, whether as his business partner, travel companion, or golf buddy. Their marriage was full of love, patience, and compassion. She departed this life for her Heavenly home leaving behind a family that will always cherish her, and to all that knew her she left memories of a brighter world. Her courage and amazing optimism throughout her life were a vivid demonstration of her faith.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and many friends for their expressions of love, compassion, encouragement, and especially for their continual prayers throughout her struggle the past 14 months.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, AR. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016, 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Rev. Nelson Henderson of Pocahontas, and Rev. Ron Madison of Huntsville, AL officiating. A graveside service directed by Shelton Funeral Home of Decatur, AL for family friends will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, AL on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Madison officiating.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
