Gayle McDonald Phillips – Obituary

gayleGayle McDonald Phillips, 72, of Decatur died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born May 21, 1941, in Morgan County to Grady Berlin McDonald and Sarah Luker McDonald. Funeral will be today, June 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Todd Toles officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gayle M. Phillips worked over two decades as an LPN at Decatur General Hospital. She was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters and especially enjoyed spending time with her two great-grandsons and her great-granddaughter to whom she was called “GIGI.” She will be remembered for her quick wit, tell it like it is attitude and most of all, the overwhelming love that she had for her family. Her parents and stepmother, Mary Pitts Underwood McDonald, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Steven D. Phillips, Michael M. Phillips (Teresa) and Mark A. Phillips, all of Decatur; stepson, Steve Phillips of Birmingham; sister, Joyce McDonald Sellers (Bob) of Birmingham; two granddaughters, Alison Phillips Miller (Grant) of Trinity and Sarah L. Phillips of Decatur; and three great-grandchildren, Cohen. M. Miller, Micah C. Miller and Eisley L. Miller.

Pallbearers will be Ray Sellers, Spencer Sellers, Doug Chatman, Phil Lancaster, Thomas Russel and Grant Miller.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association /Pulmonary Fibrosis.
