Gayla Turner Bailey was called home to Heaven by our Lord and Savior on Friday, July 29, 2022, after battling many years of Parkinson’s disease. For 6 years she was cared for by a very loving staff at NHC Healthcare in Moulton, she was born on May 27, 1964 to Jo Ann and Cecil Howard Turner.
Officiating the service will be Reverend Ronald Manly and Reverend Tommy Smothers and directed by Peck Funeral Home.
Gayla attended Judson College and graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BA in Communications. After graduation, she worked for Decatur General Hospital Foundation before moving to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where she spent 24 years working for Consolidated Nuclear Security and Knoxville News Sentinel. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Bailey (William Means) and Jodie Scheffler (Samuel Scheffler), granddaughter, Charlotte Means, parents, Jo Ann and Cecil turner, sister, Robin Turner Higdon (Michael Higdon), two nieces, Brooke Higdon Spearman (Benjamin Spearman) and Bryn Higdon, nephew, Braxton Higdon, and best friend Emily Duke Payton.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31,2022 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home. The Funeral will be 3:00 PM Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Peck Funeral Home. Burial will be at New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in the Brooksville community.
Pallbearers will be William Means, Samuel Scheffler, Braxton Higdon, Patrick Graydon, Wally Payton, and Michael Manly.
