Gary Steven "Steve" LondonGary Steven “Steve” London, 66, retired book salesman, died Sunday, November 4, 2018, at his residence in Columbia.

A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Highland Park Baptist Church with Dr. Archer Thorpe officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.

Born June 26, 1952 in Maury County, he was the son of the late William Clayton London and the late Dorothy Price London. The 1970 graduate of Columbia Central High School served ten years in the U. S. Navy, stationed in Point Sur, California; Eleuthera Bahamas, and Bermuda before his discharge as a First Class Petty Officer. He then earned an Associate degree from San Diego Golf Academy; and the avid golfer served as Head Pro at Los Serranos Country Club in Los Angeles, California and Valleybrook Golf & Country Club in Chattanooga. He worked with Gum Drop Books for over ten years selling books to libraries. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Director, Deacon, and was a member of the Praise Ten music team.

Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Gayle Childrey London whom he married August 12, 1970; children, Melissa London (Jeff) Wray of Columbia and Dan (Christina) London of Peachtree City, Georgia; grandchildren, Steven (Shania) Wray and Lofton London; and brother-in-law, Andy McKee.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon McKee.
