Gary Michael Boyd, son of the late Richard Hassell Boyd and Martha W. Boyd of Huntsville, AL, was born on March 16, 1951 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He attended Lee High School in Huntsville, AL, and then the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He was a member of Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity.
He worked at SCI and then at McDonnell Douglas as a Mechanical Engineer. Gary owned and operated a house building business and a trucking business.
He enjoyed many hobbies including riding motorcycles and three wheelers, reading Science fiction books, model airplanes and rockets. He loved to eat out. Gary was a big fan of history and was well read in the history of the United States and the world. He loved to dance.
Gary quietly departed this life on July 20, 2020, at home surrounded by his devoted and loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Edwards-Boyd; his nieces, Melissa Boyd Lowe of Huntsville, AL, Cathy Winslett of Madison, AL, Megan Fouts of Bloomer, WI; his nephew, Christopher Edwards of Harvest, AL; his mother-in-law, Sally Emert of Toney, AL; brother-in-law and his family, Doug and Carol Edwards of Harvest, AL; and a collection of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Gary’s spirit will remain with those he loved.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give a contribution to a local animal rescue group. We also want to thank Kindred Hospice and its many loving employees who helped take care of Gary in his last year.
