Gary Lee Gaines, age 68, Bear Creek, AL. passed away Tuesday March 13, 2018 at his home. He was a retired Truck Driver, member of Hines Baptist Church in Bear Creek. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps., during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded. He was received several commendations, those being National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Visitation will be Thursday March 15, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, AL. Funeral service will be held Friday March 16, 2018 at Hines Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M., with Bro. Ricky Mann officiating. Burial in the adjoining cemetery. Gary will lie in state 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by wife, Nelda Cagle Gaines of 46 years; children, James (Irene) Hicks, Denice (Ron) Harper and Tonya Alexander; brothers, Vic “Don” Carruth; sister, Kay Halmagyi; grandchildren, Bryan (Elizabeth) Hacker, Derrick (April) Hicks, Shavonna (Corey) Baldwin, Meagan Hicks, Jordan (Tara) Harper, Kylie Harper, Josh (Raelynn) Cagle Taylor Miller and Noah Osborn; great grandchildren, Raiden Hicks, Reighlon Baldwin, Kynliegh Harper, Hailey Cagle, Jayden Cagle and Gracie Hacker.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Nellie Gaines; brothers, Les Gaines, Ron McGlennon and Richard McGlennon who passed away in the Korean War.
