Gary Grant Grennier, a loving husband, father, grandfather, collector, Master Gardener, and family chef, died Oct. 17, 2016, in Florence, Alabama, after a lengthy illness. He was 75.
Gary Grennier was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Little Falls, Minnesota. He married the love of his life, Barbara, and had an instant family with her two young children, Bobbie and Michael. They built their own home in Ojai, California where they stayed until Barbara retired. The couple found their dream home in Lexington, Alabama. They’ve lived, worked, and played in that house for nearly 20 years (alabama-estate.com). Mr. Grennier tended their beloved fruit orchards right up until his final illness. Gary was a member of the Master Gardeners of Florence, Alabama. He also served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, of Lexington, Alabama, Mr. Grennier is survived by his daughters, Bobbie Grennier and Karen Clark, of Watsonville, California; granddaughter, Heather Hooper and her husband, Darin; great-grandsons, Ethan Hooper and Jackson Hooper, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandson, Adam Roberts, of Santa Paula, California; brothers, Ron Grennier and his wife, Judi, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, and Curtis Grennier, of Florida; sister, Elaine Gourley, of Oxnard, California; and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Grennier, of Boise, Idaho. Preceding him in death were his son, Michael Grennier, and brother, Lyle Grennier.
A memorial service is planned for next summer in California where Mrs. Grennier will live with her daughters along the coast of Monterey Bay. Information can be found at https://fb.me/garygrennier. The family is requesting friends simply remember him as a good man and kind neighbor who always was willing to lend a helping hand. He also would want everyone to know how much he appreciated the excellent doctors and nurses who cared for him during the illnesses that eventually took his life. He especially appreciated the love and devotion of Dr. Therese Lango, whose care for him was unwavering right up until the end … or, as Gary would say, his “new beginning.”
