Gary Douglas Stamper Profile PhotoGary Douglas Stamper (lovingly known by many as “Boomer”) of Madison, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on February 12, 2023. He was attended to and comforted by his wife of 33 years, Melinda Stamper. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 30, 1951, to Otis and Ruby Stamper. He was a 1969 graduate of Butler High School. Prior to retiring, he worked many years as a Mechanical Design Engineer for Lockheed Martin. Outside of the workplace, he found great joy serving as Santa Claus for many years in the Huntsville Christmas parade, for many local photographers, and as an outreach ministry for his church. He was a long-time member of Madison Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents and his granddaughter, Savannah Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda; daughters, Kelsey Van Staden (Jacob), Amanda Young, and Kelley Moore (Jimmy Burrow); sisters Teresa Stamper, Deborah McAnally (Jake), Vicki Johnson, and Tammy Schrimsher (Dan); grandchildren Ava and Cooper Moore, and John Luke and Liam Van Staden; and multiple nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved pets, Rex and Scout.

Gary was a dedicated and loyal husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered by his smile, hugs, and wild sense of humor that remained until his last days.

Special thanks to Enhabit Hospice, especially his nurses Richard, Vicki, Lynley, and Sonya, for the excellent care they provided.

A memorial service officiated by pastors Paul Harrison and Mike Rogers is planned for Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Madison Free Will Baptist Church (5295 Wall Triana Hwy Madison, AL 35758). Visitation will begin at 11am, with a memorial service following at 12pm. Memorial donations can be made to Madison Free Will Baptist Church.
