Gary Don Thompson passed away at home after an extended illness, on May 6, 2020. He was 76 years old. He was preceded in death by father, Walter Garnett Thompson; mother, Rosie Inez Thompson; and son, Gary Scott Thompson. He is survived by wife, Carla Ann Thompson; daughter, Tracey Clark; grandson, Ryan Clark; and brother, Max Thompson. Other survivors include nephews, Max Thompson Jr., and Jeff Stricklin; nieces, Valarie Brown, Shelby Stricklin, and Jenny Mahan; sister-in-law, Susan Stricklin, and husband Steve; and brother-in-law, John W. Berry and wife, Linda.
Don was the owner of G. D. Thompson Co., Inc. He was in business for over 30 years in sales of heating and air conditioning equipment, and manufacturing of access doors and fittings for commercial and industrial construction.
Don had many interests throughout his life. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his many golf buddies, spending time on his boat at the river, and watching baseball games and smoking cigars with his brother Max and son Scott. He was a great supporter of the Huntsville Stars and was one of the first season ticket holders.
