Gary Alan Palmer, 68, a great soul, departed his earthly tent and entered the portals of heaven from North Miss. Medical Center on Friday, April 21, 2023 after an extended illness. Gary was born in Cleveland, Ms. on May 28, 1954 to the late George Washington Palmer and Janette McCain Palmer. He grew up in Starkville, Ms. and graduated from Starkville High School. Gary worked several years as a financial agent in the small loan industry before becoming a master self employed carpenter. He married Gaynell Howell on Sept 26, 1997 in Okolona. Gary enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, woodworking especially with cedar wood, baseball, golf and swimming. As a child, he would walk and look for “soda water” coke bottles to sell and get enough money to go swimming at the Park. He and Gay attended Bethany Church of God of Prophecy until his health failed. A well rounded man with solid values, Gary most of all loved his family, friends and the Good Lord! He will be sorely missed.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 24, 2023 at Bethany Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop Jeremy Lincoln officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 PM-5 PM Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Bethany Church of God of Prophecy, Hwy 32 East, Okolona, MS. and from 10 AM-service time on Monday at the Church. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel is honored to be serving their friends.
Gary leaves behind his wife, Gay Nell Palmer; his son, Howell Palmer and wife, Julia all of Okolona; his daughter, Amanda Coleman and husband, Norman and son, David Woodruff all of Winnfield, Ala.; his grandchildren, Little David, Alexus and Lay; his brother, Stanley Palmer and nephew, Kevin Palmer both of Starkville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
