Gary Alan Farrar, born June 12, 1960, in Anchorage, Alaska passed suddenly at home on April 7, 2025. He was born to the late Ellen Louise Robinson Farrar and James “Jim” Charles Farrar. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, John Will and Imogene Hill Robinson and Mary and Pete Powers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lisa Farrar; children, Marie Farrar Sherrod, Tim Farrar (Brittany), and Melanie Farrar; twelve grandchildren, George Sherrod (EmmaGrace), Emma Jean Sherrod (Noah Stanley), Carter Borgstrom (Sarah), Mary Ellen Sherrod, Hailey Farrar (James), Zachary Farrar, Amari Jordan, Ashlee Parks, Jaivyn Jordan, Allyn Jordan, Jake Sherrod, and Alisa Rose Farrar; great grandchildren, Livian Sherrod and Kayson Hunt; siblings, Mike Farrar (Dora), Steve Farrar (Cindy), Debbie Alexander (Mike), Jeff Farrar (Barbara), and Deanne Walls; half-brother, Jeremy Farrar; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Gary was a loving husband, son, father, Papa, brother, and friend. He was loved by many and never met a stranger. He liked to cut up and keep everyone smiling. His bond with his wife was beautiful and like no other. He would say, “There is nobody else on this Earth who would put up with either of us. So you’re stuck with me.” He only loved one other woman as much as his wife and that was his mom. He would do anything for them both.
He loved to spend time with his family whether it was cooking out, camping, boating, hiking, or just getting together for dinner. He was selfless and everything he did was for his family. Gary was the kind of person you could call for anything and you know he would be there. In his younger years he spent many nights at the ball field coaching his children and in retirement he spent his days with his grandkids and great grandkids. There is so much to be said on the man he was, he was the greatest man we ever knew.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, April 11, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Robinson Ridge Cemetery with Tim Farrar, George Sherrod, Carter Borgstrom, Zachary Farrar, Amari Jordan, Michael Farrar, Noah Stanley, and Tommy Lowery serving as pallbearers.
