  Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mr. Gary A. Hughes, age 75 of Winchester. Mr. Hughes passed from this life suddenly on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Winchester. Mr. Hughes was born in Huntsville, Alabama on October 4, 1944 to the late Alton D. and Johnye Belle Hughes. He graduated from Butler High School in Huntsville, Alabama and recently celebrated his 50th high school class reunion.  Following high school, he furthered his education to Athens Junior College. Mr. Hughes went on to work at Nissan for 23 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of Winchester First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and volunteered in many capacities of the church. He was a volunteer with the Good Samaritan Center and Journey Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being a member of the Franklin County Senior Citizens organization. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and participating in all their activities. He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work and working tirelessly in his vegetable and flower gardens. He was an avid Alabama fan. He is preceded in death by his mother, Johnye Belle Hughes; father, Alton D. Hughes; brothers, Terrell and Jerrell Hughes. He leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted wife of 48 years, Donna Hughes of Winchester; son, Neil (Jenny) Hughes of Tullahoma; daughter, Michelle (David) Porter of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Hayden, Kacie, Rachel, Nolan, Taryn and Tenley Hughes, Lake, Joelle, and Annie Porter. As a tissue donor, the Hughes family would like to acknowledge that Gary gave the most precious gift anyone could give; the gift to save the lives of his fellow man. Visitation, Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 1:00 until 2:00pm at Watson-North Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Dr. Steve Angus, officiating. Burial will follow at Watson-North Memorial Park with friends and family serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either Winchester First United Methodist Church Attn: Youth Fund, 100 S.
