Garmelia Martin Edgar Ellis Profile PhotoGarmelia Martin Edgar Ellis went to be with her Lord in the early morning of August 20, 2023, at her residence at Charter Senior Living in Jackson, TN.

She was born in McNairy County, the Leapwood Community, the daughter of the late Lee and Odie Pugh Martin.

She married James (Billie) Edgar in 1947 and they made their home across the United States.

She was employed by the Air Force in the Base Exchange while Billie served in the Air Force for twenty-six years.   They returned to Henderson in 1980 and she was employed by Freed-Hardeman University as the school’s cashier.

She was a dedicated member of the Roby Church of Christ.

She is survived by: Three sisters, Vonah Wood of Reagan, TN, Cornethia Andrews of Molalla, OR, and Retha Fanning of Grandin, Missouri.  Four grandchildren: Steven Edgar, Marc Vogt, Stefanie Edgar, and Crystal Edgar.  And numerous great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Harold Edgar, a daughter, Cynthia Vogt, a son, Bruce Edgar, and her second husband, Gerald Ellis.  Also, 5 brothers, Robert, Terry, Ralph, Hugh, and Harley, and 2 sisters, Waymon and Christine, and a grandson, Timothy Vogt.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel with Ben Flatt officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Ave. Chapel on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
