Garland Richard Turner Garland Richard Turner, age 81 of Belvidere, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. He was born in Franklin County on August 31, 1939 to the late Buford and Edith Turner. He was the owner and operator of Turner Construction for thirty-five years where he specialized in heavy equipment jobs. An avid Atlanta Braves and University of Tennessee Volunteers fan, he himself played and coached basketball, softball, and baseball and was still playing softball in his 70’s. Richard enjoyed tending to his garden, especially his strawberries and watermelons. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and watching sports, but most of all Richard cherished the time spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. He was a dedicated member of Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and for many years as youth leader and Sunday School Superintendent. Richard will be remembered for his determination and hardworking nature as he always put himself last and sacrificed everything for those he loved. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Julia Tipton, Carrah Belle Arnold, Naomi March, Eugene Turner, R.D. Turner, Ira Turner, and James Turner. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Alice Turner; children, Garland Richard Turner Jr of Columbus, Georgia, Glenn (Margaret) Turner of Huntsville, Alabama, and Gerald (Lisa) Turner of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Austin (Darby), Caitlin, Owen, and Garrett; brother, Malcom (Mary) Turner of Tullahoma; sister-in-law, Peggy Turner of Manchester; brother-in-law, Paul March of Charleston, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 16, 2021 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Dr. Joe Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery.
