Friedel Alma Betti Tackett (Oma), 90, went to be with the Lord peacefully on May 28, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Madison, Alabama.
Friedel was born on February 22, 1928, in Itzehoe, West Germany. She was the daughter of Emil and Margaretha Mankowsky. She met her husband, Franklin Tackett, in Germany and married on November 18, 1960. After her husband’s retirement from the military in 1974, Frank and Friedel settled in Huntsville, Alabama, where they raised three daughters. She was a former member of Heritage Baptist Church and was baptized in 1978.
Friedel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Oma), great-grandmother and friend who loved her family, people and cooking. Her smile could light up any room and her love was unconditional. She was warm and welcoming, full of life, love and laughter. There wasn’t anyone who was a stranger to her – she was everyone’s “Oma”. She was a constant source of strength and love for her family and will forever be loved and dearly missed.
Friedel is survived by her husband of 57 years, Franklin Tackett; daughters Denise Tackett and partner Judith Witten of Toney, AL, Margaretha Little and husband Rob of Madison, AL, and Susan Caldwell and husband Kevin of Madison, AL. Oma is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher Little, Joshua Little, Thomas Little, Anthony Brown, Jr., and Kristen Roberts (Tony); and great-grandchildren Peyton and Riley Roberts.
Our family would like to thank Pam Hardin and hospice for the tender loving care given to Oma and our family during her final days with us.
