SHEFFIELD – Sheffield Police have identified the 2 fatalities from Friday night’s crash at South Montgomery Avenue and South Jackson Highway. 32-year old Amanda Hyatt, Muscle Shoals, died at the scene. An infant, 7-month old Mariah Hale succumbed to her injuries Saturday morning at University Alabama Birmingham Hospital. Her mother, 26-year old Ashley Lanette Hale, Muscle Shoals, in being treated at UAB also. Her condition is unknown.

According to witnesses a Mercury Mountaineer with two male teenagers was northbound on South Montgomery turning left onto Jackson Highway. A silver compact sedan, traveling at an extremely high speed and with its hazard lights flashing, was approaching the intersection from the north. The Mountaineer SUV turned left into the path of the speeding sedan, resulting in the catastrophe.

We are working on identifying the teen occupants of the SUV. A Sheffield Police source has informed us that the 2 boys were released from Shoals Hospital late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
