FreightCar America Closes Doors Temporarily – Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

CHEROKEE-On Saturday, March 28 FreightCar America released a statement saying that operations at the plant in Cherokee would be shout down until April 7, 2020.

One of the employees from the Cherokee plant has tested positive for COVID-19.  According to the news release Anyone who may has been exposed to the employee who tested positive for COVID-19 has been contacted and FreightCar America has initiated their Health and Safety Protocol.

CEO of FreightCar America, James Myer said extraordinary measures had been taken to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and “out of abundance of caution and to reduce risk of secondary or tertiary exposure, we are temporarily suspending railcar production.”

The Company shut down on Saturday, March 28 and all employees will return April 7 after the plant completes their cleaning protocol… Some employees may return sooner as cleaning proceeds.

During the closure period FreightCar America will continue to receive material shipments.
