Freddie Alton Hester, age 76, of Tuscumbia, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014. His family will receive friends Friday, 12-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Eddie Wix and Joshua McGuire officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Hester was a member of Crooked Oak Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for forty years. He graduated from Cherokee Vocational High School in 1957, served six years in the Army Reserve and retired from Norfolk Southern railroad. He was an extraordinary family man and provider. He leaves big shoes to fill. He is preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Pearl Hester, brothers, Nathan Hester, Nelson Hester, Edward Hester and Gerald Hester. Daily he spoke of Eddie Wix, Dr. John Mims, Josh McGuire, Frankie Whitaker, J. C. Holt etc. Survivors include his wife of fifty four years, Mae Jean Malone Hester of Tuscumbia, daughter, Teresa Hester Lenz of Athens, son, Freddie “Andy” Anthony Hester Sr. (Cindy) of Tuscumbia, sister, Pearline McMurtrey, grandchildren, Freddie Anthony Hester Jr.(Ashley), Amy Hester Brown (Andy), Brady Lenz, Sera and Bradley Stancil, great grand-children, Zoe and Freddie Anthony (“Tripp”) Hester III, Aydon Holland, Austyn and Brycen Williams and Ella Stancil. Pallbearers are Paul Hester, Douglas Hester, Mark Hester, Randy McMurtrey, Ricky McMurtrey, Ken Flannagan, Ben McGuire and Nathan Bishop. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy McKee, Gene Arthur, Leroy Taylor, Lester Thorn, Earl Dean Thomason, Bobby Williams and Graton Hester. The family expresses special thanks to Gentiva Home Care and Hospice, Cypress Cove, Ashley, Tonya, Brenda, Sharon and his special friend Izella. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
