Freda Hall Taylor – Obituary

Funeral services for Freda Hall Taylor, 90, long time resident of Hartselle, will be Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Hartselle, Alabama, with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, just before the funeral from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Taylor, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, in Rome, Georgia was born June 29, 1927, in Danville, Alabama to Troy Selvin Hall and Clara Arminda (Menda) Miller. Mrs. Taylor spent her growing up years in Danville, Alabama. She graduated from Danville High School and attended University of Montevallo two years and transferred to Auburn University where she graduated with a home economics degree in clothing and textiles. After college, Freda moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama and worked as a home extension agent.

Auburn is where she met her future husband, James Murphy Taylor. Freda married James on March 18, 1950, and moved to Saint Louis, Missouri and then to Knoxville, Tennessee before returning home to Hartselle. Freda attended St. Bernard College were she achieved her teaching certificate. Freda taught school at Crestline Elementary. Freda was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. She was active in the Heritage choir, Sunday school, and the 39+ Club. She loved to sew for her three girls and her grandchildren. Freda always had a large garden and enjoyed making pickles and jellies. She was a wonderful cook. She and some of her closest friends loved to play bridge together. Freda valued friends and family gatherings with her children and grandchildren.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sue Hall; and her husband, James Murphy Taylor.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Janice Shea (Thomas), Rome, Georgia, Deborah Anne Hodge (Larry), Buckhead, Georgia, and Nancy Leigh French (Rick), Roswell, Georgia; one brother, Terry Selvin Hall (Dottie), Hartselle; one sister, Ima Fay White; ten surviving grandchildren, Thomas James (TJ) Shea, Anna Katherine Shea, Mary Claire Hodge, William Murphy Hodge, Taylor Anne French, Morgan Olivia French, Deryck Gordon Hodge, Brandon Michael French, Adrianne Denise French, and Amanda Marie French; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Noel Hodge and Waverly Brynn Hodge; three nieces, Marianne Hall Harvil, Holly Hall Powell, and Rose Hall; and three nephews, Teryl Steele, Jackie Steele, and David Steele.

Pallbearers will be Hollis Kendall Barton Jr., Roy William Langlois, Rick Alan French, Thomas James Shea, and William Murphy Hodge.
