Fred S. Wojtalik, 90, of Huntsville passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021, at home. He was born in Hamtramck, Michigan to Walter and Anna Jarosv who were both born in Poland.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joanna Wojtalik; children, David Wojtalik and Jan Smith (Greg); grandchildren, Lauren Owen (Gary) and Ryan (Amanda); and great-grandson, Warner. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Mark.
After high school, Fred graduated from Michigan State University in 1952 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Hard work and scholarships got him through college. He was also a Sloan Fellow from the School of Management at M.I.T. After graduation, Fred spent two years in the Air Force. He spent six years employed with the Chrysler Missile Plant, and then joined NASA. Fred had many accomplishments with NASA.
He was Project Manager of HEAO, HUBBLE and Chandra, received many Presidential and NASA Awards, and was a member of Senior Executive Service. He retired from NASA in 1999.
Fred was an intelligent, motivated, hardworking, honest individual who was proud of his family, employment, and friends. He will be missed by all.
A memorial mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. There will be a private graveside service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Alabama, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
