“IN THE END IT’S NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT COUNT, IT’S THE LIFE IN YOUR YEARS.”

Fred Floyd Ikard, 87, of Harvest Alabama, passed away on September 1, 2023, after a short illness. Fred was born on May 19, 1936, to Ray and Ozona Ikard in Huntsville, Alabama.

He began serving in the Navy at the early age of 19 and returned home to marry Betty Joyce Smartt on November 12, 1960. They went on to have two sons, Clayton and Tony.

Early in the 1960’s, he became a successful business entrepreneur. He opened Ikard Septic Tank Manufacturing and Sales and continued to work with his sons up to the time of his illness.

He loved history, reading and spending time with his family; but most of all, he loved working.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Billy Ray and Donald.

He is survived by his wife Betty: his sons Clayton (Jan) and Tony (Joann); and his grandchildren, Cody, Logan, Luke, Alli, and Erin.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The family will have a private graveside service.

The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Huntsville Hospital for their compassionate care.

“THOSE WE LOVE DO NOT GO AWAY. THEY WALK BESIDE US EVERY DAY. UNSEEN, UNHEARD, BUT ALWAYS NEAR; STILL LOVED, STILL MISSED AND VERY DEAR.”
