Frank Lee Cox was born on July 13, 1952 in Dothan, Alabama. His family ultimately settled in Arab, Alabama where he graduated in 1970 from Arab High School. Lee then attended the University of Alabama. He graduated with a degree in biology with plans to pursue pharmacy at Samford University. But when his father, Robert Hinds Cox, passed away in 1975, Frank returned home to Arab to take over the family business, Hinds and Cox Insurance, which was started by his father and uncle. Lee’s love for people and for Arab extended beyond his insurance work and led him into city government where he served for over twenty years, thirteen years as a city councilman and seven years as mayor. He was also a lifelong member of Arab First Baptist Church and loved his church family.
Most of all, Lee was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (“Pop Pop”). He was a man of quick wit and a ready smile and nothing meant more to him than seeing his family growing and happy.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet (“Jan”) Lawson Cox, of Guntersville, AL; his three children: Cameron Lawson Cox (Abby) of Auburn, AL; Anna Catherine Mount (Jake) of Guntersville, AL; and Clayton Lee Cox (Nicole) of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren: Molly-Cate Mount, Carter Williams Cox, Collins Henry Mount, Carrington Lee Cox, Luke Bowden Cox, and Shepherd Brooks Cox; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Lawson of Guntersville, AL.
