Frank E. Ryerson – Obituary

Dr. Frank E. Ryerson, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 8, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home and Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Frank E. Ryerson and Anna Irene Ryerson; and his brothers, George, Earl, Lyle, Paul, Dwight and Carl.

Survivors include his wife, Helen O. Ryerson; his daughter, Susan R. Myers; his sons, Dr. James A. Ryerson and Dr. Frank E. Ryerson III; his grandchildren, Amanda Lindseth, Monica Parham, Heather Barnes, Isabella Ryerson, Erin Ryerson, Lauren Keet and Alan Myers; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan Lindseth, Morgan Lindseth, Hannah Faith Parham and Kourtney Barnes.

Dr. Ryerson was born in Holton, Kan. on August 9, 1921, the youngest of seven brothers, whose father was a Methodist minister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then earned a doctorate from the University of Iowa. He began teaching business communication at the University of Alabama in 1962. He was proud of being selected Professor Emeritus at the University of Alabama on June 26, 1986. He spent his retirement years traveling the world with his wife of 69 years, Helen, and making wooden toys for disadvantaged children. He took great satisfaction in this work.
Pallbearers will be Dr. James A. Ryerson, Dr. Frank E. Ryerson III, Bert Myers, Alan Myers, Michael Lindseth, Keith Parham, and Raven Keet.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the RISE Program for Children, P.O. Box 870305, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487.
