Mrs. Frances Nell Montgomery, 94, peacefully went to her heavenly home on June 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived.
Born and raised in Texas to Coke and Zora Permenter, Frances grew up in a simpler time when horse-and-buggies were still a way of life and family, faith, and hard work were at the heart of every day. From a young age, she was known for her intelligence and determination. Frances learned to read at an early age and was so advanced in school that she skipped a grade, a testament to the bright mind she carried throughout her life.
While living in Texas, Frances met the love of her life, Neil Montgomery, who was stationed there during his military service. The two fell in love, and when his service in Texas came to an end, Neil brought his Texas sweetheart home to Mississippi. Together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and love. Their marriage was one of devotion and partnership, and the memories they made together would become a treasured legacy for their family.
Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was blessed with three sons: Thad Montgomery, Richard Montgomery, and Jeff Montgomery. She is survived by her son, Thad Montgomery.
She was a proud grandmother to Kirsten Foster and Chad Montgomery (Jamie) and a cherished great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren.
Frances is also survived by her sisters, Peggy Nelson and Lillie Lightfoot, and her brother, Richard Permenter.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Neil Montgomery; her sons, Richard Montgomery and Jeff Montgomery; her parents, Coke and Zora Permenter; her grandparents, Bruce and Hazel Standridge; her sisters, Mary McNatt, Maurine Hardaway, and Eddy Lee Wolfe; and her brother, Billy Permenter.
To know Frances was to know kindness, strength, faith, and unwavering love. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She carried with her the values she learned as a young girl in Texas and passed them down through the generations—love your family, work hard, keep your faith, and treat others with kindness. She was the heart of her family and a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and love.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Neil, her sons, and the many family members and friends she dearly missed. We can only imagine the joyful reunion that welcomed her home.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain in our hearts forever.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Montgomery, Ashton Montgomery, Brad Mayo, Rick Foster, Robin Taylor, and Mac Montgomery.
