Mrs. Frances Marie McClendon, age 84, of the Brashier’s Chapel Community of Arab, Alabama passed away Sunday, October 26. Mrs. McClendon was born to Franklin Theo Hooper and Dollie Alzae Hooper in Lebanon, Texas on January 3, 1941 and was married to Jack C. McClendon who preceded her in death (1993).
Having worked in many trades, Mrs. McClendon found her most rewarding profession as a Library Technician at the Arab Public Library after completing her Business Administration certification through Snead State Community College. After a decade with coworkers who felt like family, she retired at 80 years old.
A kind and humble spirit, with a fierce but quiet strength, Mrs. McClendon taught those she encountered through her wisdom and daily example. She enjoyed being with family, gospel music, spending time outdoors, and with neighbors Pam Moore and Gail Snow.
She is survived by her children, Larona Mahathey, Olen McClendon (Donna), Lalena Johnson (Chris) and Franklin McClendon; grandchildren, Leslie Holmes, Adam Holmes, Keith Mahathey, Kevin Mahathey, Tonia Arrington, Chris Mahathey, Jonathon Mahathey, Garrett McClendon, Emma McClendon, Derek Johnson, Kristen Johnson, and Meagen Minnix; 16 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; siblings, Gary Hooper and Paula Mayfield; a host of nieces and nephews; and son-in-law, Jerry Holmes.
Those family members preceding her in death include her parents, Franklin and Dollie Hooper; children, Mona Holmes, John McClendon and Jackie McClendon; siblings, Donald Hooper, Inez Suratt, Jean Lockhart and Gwen Meister; and son-in-law, Tony Mahathey.
