Fran Nunnelly, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 19 after having had dementia for several years. Visitation will be from 10:30-12:00, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Florence. The service will follow in the Sanctuary at 12:00 with Pastor Kevin Johnson officiating. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Fran enjoyed her years of work at National Pool, Union Carbide, and Bank Independent. She enjoyed serving her community through the Coffee High School Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Florence Historical Board, two terms on the Florence Civil Service Board, Alabama State President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Exchange Club, and service in many capacities at First Baptist Church of Florence, along with many other clubs in the Shoals area.
Her husband, Luther Max Nunnelly; her parents, Howard and Rozelle Tirey; infant son, Clay Nunnelly; son, Leslie Nunnelly; daughter-in-law, Marty Wallace; and special friend, Jack Counts, preceded her in death.
Left to honor her memory are her son, Bill Nunnelly (Eileen); her grandson Nathan Nunnelly (Michela); and her granddaughter Leigh Harris (Dave). Pallbearers will be Nathan Nunnelly, Michela Nunnelly, Dave Harris, Tom Tirey, Jeff Stewart, and Jeffrey Jones.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Renaissance of Florence Assisted Living, and Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave Fran.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caringplace of the Shoals an Adult Day Service for people with dementia or the frail elderly. It has been the mission of the Nunnelly/Sloan Families to support this Center to assist families in the Shoals area and their loved ones that suffer from dementia like Fran did.
