FPD Make Arrest Charge Suspect With Felony Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement

FLORENCE-On Monday, January 28, 2024, a Florence Police Officer observed a grey Chevrolet
Malibu run the stop sign at the intersection of Nance and West Mobile Street. The vehicle
accelerated quickly onto Fayette Street. The officer caught up with the vehicle as it was
making several quick turns onto several streets in the area. The officer activated his
emergency lights to pull the Malibu over and the driver continued driving at a high rate of
speed. The vehicle turned North onto Highway 20 and accelerated well over 100 mph.
The vehicle made several turns around County Road 14 and then returned to Highway 20
traveling Southbound. Spike strips were used, and the Malibu continued back to West
Mobile where the driver, Joshua Turner-Gilbert, 38 years of age from Florence, stopped
and ran on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Turner-Gilbert was caught and he physically
resisted arrest. He was handcuffed and arrested after a brief struggle. No one was hurt in
the incident.
Joshua Turner-Gilbert was charged with:
Felony Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement
Resisting Arrest
Running a Stop Sign
Reckless Driving
Windshield Obstructed
Improper Lane Change
Driving Suspended
Turner-Gilbert was released from the Lauderdale Detention Center on a $3,000
bond.
Joshua Turner-Gilbert is innocent until proven guilty.
