Floyd Newell, age 88 of Phil Campbell, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at Cottage of the Shoals in Tuscumbia. He was born July 11, 1938, to Samuel and Nettie Baker Newell. Floyd owned Newell Heating and cooling for 47 years in the heating and cooling business. He was an entrepreneur at heart. Floyd enjoyed hunting (especially deer hunting), fishing, and Alabama football. He especially enjoyed cooking out for his family and preparing steak and his famous hush puppies. Visitation will be Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville, where the service will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Newell, Cody Newell, Kenny Wright, Danny Bryant, Daniel Bryant, Alan Newell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dalton Newell and Wayne. Floyd is survived by his children, Alan Newell (Diane), Denise Oliver (Mitchell), Laura Johnson (Mike), Keila Eckles (Jim), Tammy Schatz, Shannon Newell (Kayla), and Cody Newell (Brittany); siblings, R.L. Newell (Laritha), Martha Tuck (Mike), Clinton Newell (Judy), Byron Newell, and Pete Newell (Margie); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Nettie Baker Newell; stepmother, Mary Magdalene Newell; daughter, Deanna Carol Newell; grandchildren, Angeline Newell, Joey Newell, and Christopher Williams; and siblings, Arles Newell, Jimmy Newell, Starland Newell, Wayne Newell, Inez Duboise, and Hulon Newell.
