Feature ImageFloretta Slaughter Goodbeer, 76, of Huntsville, AL, died early on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the South Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Floretta was born on May 26, 1942 in Madison, AL to the late Rev. Riley and Suedellar Jackson Slaughter, the tenth of twelve children.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Alfred Slaughter, an infant boy, Mattie Belle Slaughter, Howard Slaughter, Riley Slaughter, Jr., Susie Mae Taylor-Ward, Lela Timmons, and Christine Stewart.

Floretta confessed hope in Christ at an early age. She graduated from Councill High School in 1960, after which she studied cosmetology at Drake Technical.   She was married to Clarence Goodbeer from March 1962 – July 1976.

Floretta is survived by three sons, Clarence J. Goodbeer of Waukegan, IL, Christopher M. (William) Goodbeer of Bloomington, IN, and Craig C. (Tangela) Goodbeer of Huntsville; two grandchildren, Tevon Breach, and Cierra Goodbeer; one great-grandchild Malani Goodbeer; three sisters, Catherine (O.B.) Thomas of Inkster, MI, and Amelia (Robbie) Wiley, and Rev. Stella Mae Slaughter of Huntsville; niece Bobbie Gene Allen of Toledo, OH; cousin Ruth “Fannie” Smith of Huntsville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held on Floretta’s 77th birthday, 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Lowes Chapel United Methodist Church (460 Sanderson Rd NW, Huntsville, AL 35805) with Rev. Waymond K. Smith officiating.
