FLORENCE-On July 2, 2025 at around 11:40pm, Florence Police Department officers responded to Sonic on Helton Drive, where a female attempted to steal a vehicle.
The victim observed a female, later identified as Sherry Stapler White, inside her vehicle backing up. As White was backing

up, the victim jumped in through the driver window and was able to put the gear shift into park. White got out of the vehicle and began to hit the victim until employees came outside and told White to stop. White left the scene before Florence Police officers could arrive.
While officers were taking the report and speaking to witnesses, White returned to the scene. She was taken into custody and booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
Sherry Stapler White, 60, of Athens, Alabama, is charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree. White is being held on a $30,000 bond.
Sherry Stapler White is innocent until proven guilty.
