FLORENCE-During a press conference on Tuesday, February 2 a Florence City School employee has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student.
The teacher in question is Lorie Gean Earwood, 45, and she has been accused of sexual contact with an 18-year-old student. Earwood surrendered to police Tuesday where she was booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center. Her bond totals $22,000.
Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler said Earwood is accused of having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student. Earwood is charged with two Class B felonies and two Class A misdemeanors alleging she had a sexual relationship with the student.
The attorney for Lorie Earwood released this statement:
“I’m am disappointed by the charges levied against my client. I am still investigating the allegation and hope the public does not rush to judgement before all the facts come light.”
The identity of the student is being withheld. Earwood is listed as a staff nurse on the Florence City Schools website.
