FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a Scam Alert today, Tuesday, January 19:
FPD is receiving calls today about a telephone scam that is targeting our area.
The scammer(s) are calling from a 202 area code and claiming to be from the US Dept. of Treasury.
They claim that due to your good credit, timely payment of bills, and tax records you have been awarded money. They following by asking for a bank account to transfer the money to. THIS IS A SCAM.
Do not give your personal account information to persons or companies that you do not know and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
