Florence Police Perform High Water Rescue

FLORENCE-On Monday, July 24 the Florence Police Department reported a High Water Rescue.  The Florence Police Released the following statement concerning the rescue:

“Florence Police received a call of a motorist that attempted to drive thru high water on Commerce St at Veterans Dr.

When SGT Shane Blalock arrived he located a vehicle with a female driver trapped inside with the water coming into the vehicle.

Detective Zach Maxwell arrived he placed a life vest on and was tethered with a safety line provided by SGT Blalock and went out to the vehicle. He was able to place a vest onto the driver and pull her to safety.

When the rescue was taking place the water was high enough to come into the windows of the vehicle.

Florence Fire and Rescue along with Shoals Ambulance arrived to provide medical assistance to the driver.”
