Florence Police Officer Shot …. Suspect Dead

officer-injuredFLORENCE-Just after midnight on Sunday, April 17 a Florence Police Officer was shot at the intersection of Cloverdale Road and Cox Creek Parkway.

The Officer was shot in the face by a man.  The officer returned fire but the alleged shooter fled  the scene.

About thirty minutes later a  car matching the description of the suspected gunman’s car was spotted and officers gave a short chase.  The chase ended  in the parking lot at the Chisholm Hills Church of Christ.  A gunshot went off as officers approached the vehicle.  Police discovered the driver of the auto deceased of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The officers giving chase  said they did not discharge their weapons.  The State Bureau of Investigations is assisting Florence Police in this investigation.

They have not released the name of the officer nor the person involved.  Authorities did say the injured officer was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment and the officer is said to be alert and talking.
