FLORENCE-Captain Brad Holmes of Criminal Investigations/ Internal Affairs with the Florence Police Department released an update on the murder investigation that started on Friday, June 22 after a 23-year-old-man was found dead in his apartment at the Four Seasons Apartments in Florence:
“Our detectives have not stopped since the case was opened on Friday.
Currently, we are still searching for Mr. Cobb’s car which has been outstanding since his death. A nationwide BOLO was issued on the vehicle and hope that someone might have seen the vehicle between Friday of last week and today.
We are withholding details of the manner and cause of death as they may be critical to us solving this case. We continue to ask that anyone who has information about this case or who may have had contact with Mr. Cobb over the last 10 days please call police at 256-768-2728.”
“At approximately 5:30p on Friday, June 22, 2018, officers with the Florence Police Department responded to “welfare check” at 2251 Helton Drive, Four Seasons Apartments. Family members contacted police after they were unable to contact Christopher ‘Devan’ Cobb, 23, at his apartment. Officers responded and made entry into the apartment and located Mr. Cobb deceased inside. Detectives responded and a homicide investigation was initiated.
Our officers and detectives have now been on scene over 18 hours and are continuing to process the scene for evidence. Mr. Cobb was transported from the scene by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and is awaiting autopsy. The manner and cause of death are not being released at this time.
During the course of our investigation it has been determined that Mr. Cobb’s vehicle, a 2008 Suzuki Forenza, dull Black in color, bearing Alabama license plate 41FV985, and having tape over the driver’s side window, has been removed from the scene by an unknown person(s). We ask the public to be on the lookout for this vehicle. If someone sees this vehicle we ask that you contact police immediately.
This investigation is still in its preliminary stages, but our goal is to identify those responsible for Mr. Cobb’s death and bring them forward to answer for their crimes. Mr. Cobb’s family deserves closure in this case and we ask anyone with information about this case to contact the Florence Police Department at 256-768-2728. “
